In keeping with the mission to empower women in agriculture through education, involvement, and action, the Kentucky Women in Agriculture organization offers a scholarship for women who are full-time students entering their junior year in college through graduate school. Scholarship applicants must demonstrate the degree they are seeking relates to agriculture, demonstrate need, and be enrolled as a full-time student.
Scholarship applicants must meet the following criteria:
Be a female with residence in Kentucky.
Entering junior year through graduate school in a Kentucky school or affiliate school (e.g. Auburn or Perdue veterinary schools) with a GPA of 2.5 or above. Must submit college transcript to date.
Include with the application a statement about the applicant’s career goals for working in agriculture and how this scholarship will support her academic pursuits. (500 words or less)
Prior to the release of funds, the scholarship recipient must submit a tuition invoice and class schedule for the next semester of classes to verify enrollment in university course work.
The application deadline is June 30.
The scholarship award will be $1,000.00 and will be paid to the applicant in one $500.00 increment each semester. The applicant will be notified by the Kentucky Women in Agriculture organization in writing by July 30.
All personal information will be kept confidential. The winner’s name will be posted on the KWIA website by September 1.
Applications will be judged on the following criteria:
Desire to work in the field of agriculture - 40 pts.
Financial need (Please submit FAFSA summary page) - 30 pts.
Academic record - 20 pts.
Extra-curricular activities - 10 pts.Submit at least two (2) letters of recommendation verifying why the applicant fits the criteria listed above.
The chosen applicant will be asked to submit a photograph and sign a release for publication.
The chosen applicant will be invited to the KWIA annual meeting to be recognized for her accomplishments.
